The Buffalo Bills Offseason
2022 Dream Draft Pick: Andrew Booth Jr.
The Buffalo Bills need to upgrade the cornerback position after being literally a play away from getting to the AFC championship and the hope they probably have is that one of the top 3 cornerbacks start to tumble and the most likely to fall could be Andrew Booth Jr. out of Clemson. Booth Jr. is one of the best man cover corners in the draft with exceptional athleticism and technique and if the Bills find themselves in a position to grab him they shouldn't hesitate to turn his card in.
The To-Do List
Resign Tremaine Edmunds
The Buffalo Bills defense was once again among the best with many considering it the #1 in the league in 2021 but after falling short in the NFL playoffs the Bills have a lot of players that are going to want to get paid in 2022 but none more so than linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. Edmunds was a steal in the first round 2018 draft, the very same one they grabbed Josh Allen in, and he has been nothing short of a tremendous linebacker in the NFL with 2x pro bowls in his first 4 seasons and I would expect to get a big pay day in 2022 if not 2023 when his 5th year option expires. Tremaine Edmunds best attribute for his success isn't predicated in just his play but his youth as well as considering that he was one of the youngest players to ever get drafted at 19 years of age and with exceptional play this early in his football career at the NFL level, the skies the limit as to what he's still developing into at currently 23 yrs old. Tremaine Edmunds best football is way ahead of him and it's scary to think of how good he can be if he continues to develop and if I am Buffalo I take advantage of his age and I sign him to an extremely long contract of 8 or 9 years that pays him about 12 million per, Edmunds could be one of the best linebackers in the game for a very long time and his importance to this defense cannot be understated. No need for me to see anymore plays from him or for him to wait any longer, I simply give him his bag now and watch my investment continue to flourish.
Cut Cole Beasley
Cole Beasley has been an very good receiver for the Buffalo Bills which is say a lot considering that he's a slot receiver that's going to 33 yrs old in 2022 and while he's still potentially got some productive years ahead of him, his contract certainly doesn't match the play and Buffalo needs to address it. Cole Beasley is approaching a cliff in his play and while he has been one of the best slot receivers in the NFL for a while, slot receivers are a lot like running backs as they tend to come in and have great success quickly and Buffalo talent acquisition through the draft has been excellent the last few years so replacing Cole Beasley shouldn't be too difficult a task. Cutting Beasley saves over $6,000,000 in cap space puts them under the cap for 2022 season and while I could also say that renegotiating his contract would also help both keep him on the roster and save cap but if he's not willing to negotiate with the Bills just cut and replace him.
Draft a running back early
The Buffalo Bills biggest problem heading into the 2022 NFL season is their lacking running game especially at the running back position where the quarterback in Josh Allen often takes the football himself in the running game and keeping him clean from defenders by not running him at all and developing a consistent rushing attack. This draft isn't a great running back draft and the Bills likely will get a guy in Day 2 that can be productive and the one running back I think that could change life in Buffalo at the position is Kenneth Walker III who was a Heisman candidate at the running back position and his one year at Michigan State showed him to be a tremendous power back with a high ceiling and if the Bills were to combine him with Josh Allen, this offense could be unstoppable. We all saw what happened to the Buffalo Bills when they couldn't throw the football against the Patriots in 5 degree weather and running the football on that day was just something they couldn't achieve at the running back position. Breece Hall is also an intriguing name for this team because he's well built and highly skilled running back that perfectly fits for what the Bills are doing and he has a frame that was made for tough weather conditions. The Bills need to get themselves a quality every down back that can turn this pass heavy offense into more balanced attack and it could give the Bills the more nuanced offense that they have struggled to maintain the last couple seasons.
