Pros 

• Outstanding height, weight, athleticism combo.

• Great burst off the line and into his routes.

 

• He has that rare top gear for tight ends to potentially pull away from defenders.

 

• Exceptional explosiveness in his lower half makes him potentially deadly contested catches. 

 

• Father, Bill, is an offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos showing his NFL bloodlines and pro coaching since he was a kid.

• Season ending knee injury early in 2022 cut what was shaping up to be promising short.

• Not one to break many tackles as his lower half is more built for speed.

• Most of his wins against coverage come from his straight line speed and size rather than precise route-running.

• Seam routes seem to be the majority of his success in college with very few short and intermediate routes in his repertoire.

• When he get bumped in coverage he can have a hard time staying on course.

Overview

If not for his season-ending injury, Luke Musgraves probably would have surprised a lot of people in 2022 with his capabilities because his first couple games of 2022 were exceptional. His shocking speed for his size is excellent and it could be a very difficult thing for defenders in the NFL to game plan for but he has to develop his overall much further to be a reliable tight end in the NFL. He has primarily won with his athleticism and competitiveness which can get you places in college football but the NFL is full guys just as if not more athletic than anything he faced at Oregon State. I expect him to find a small role on offense early on in his rookie year and gradually transition into a more active role once he starts getting his sea legs and year two or three in the league I can see him becoming a more reliable starter in the NFL.
